Our first Disability Equality Scheme provides us with the opportunity to take a structured approach to improving the opportunities available to disabled people. It will help us to identify and remove the barriers that prevent disabled people from fully participating in University life.
In our strategy we highlight the importance of creating an inclusive environment in which everyone can thrive and benefit. For disabled people this means considering not just the physical environment, but also the ways in which we communicate, the provision of information, the services and support we offer to staff and students, the accessibility of opportunities, the education and teaching quality and the overall experience of everyone in our University community.
It is important for us to remember that we must listen to disabled people in order to understand how we can continuously improve. We welcome comments about our scheme and you will find there are a number of ways in which you can contact us to give us your views.
Making our University more accessible and inclusive benefits us all and will help us to reach our goal of being in the top 10 Universities by 2010.
