The Race Relations Amendment Act 2000 outlaws all types of discrimination and places a duty upon specified public authorities to promote race equality. The specific duties forming part of this promotion are:
- assess whether functions and policies are relevant to race equality
- monitor policies to see how they affect race equality
- assess and consult on any proposed future policies
- publish the results of consultations, monitoring and assessments
- make sure that the public have access to the information and services provided
- train staff on the duties.
The University is currently embarking on an impact assessment exercise across the University which includes all the above and future equality training for all members of staff.
