The University’s new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Don Nutbeam, took up his post on 1 October. This is his introductory message to staff, recorded shortly before he took office, in which he speaks about how he intends to take the University forward in the first few months of his leadership.
After a 13 month build-up, Southampton alumnus Professor Don Nutbeam took office as the University's new Vice Chancellor today.
Don is a world-renowned expert in public health and has had a varied career spanning sectors (including governments, health services and universities) and continents.
He joins the University from his former post of Academic Provost at the University of Sydney. Don's research career has included public health intervention research in schools and communities, as well as studies of health literacy and adolescent health behaviour.
Last week Don recorded a message for staff in which he reflects on his return to the University where he undertook his postgraduate studies in the 1980s and sets out a timeline for the development of a strategy that will ensure the social and economic relevance, and increased independence, of the University over the next ten years.
