Making an Application

After logging in to your account, you should go to the Applications section and choose "Create a New Application".

When you make an application for accommodation you will be required to enter information about the accommodation you would prefer. You will need to enter:

  • At least three preferences for Part-Catered/Self Catered, Room Type, Contract Duration and Hall Complex
  • Details of smoking/non-smoking and single/mixed gender requirements
  • Details of any other needs or requirements you have

This portfolio of information will then be used to guide us when we make you an offer of accommodation. Please note that although we will do all we can to meet your preferences we cannot guarantee that a particular Room Type or Hall Complex will be available when we make your allocation. Please see How and Why we Make an Allocation for more details.

Accommodation Category

You will be asked to select your preferences based on whether you are applying for accommodation as a single person, couple or family. Next you will be asked to select the following:

1. Catering Option

  • Part-Catered
  • Self Catered
  • Self Contained

In Part-Catered accommodation, two meals per day are provided on weekdays and one meal per day at weekends during term time. During University vacation periods, the accommodation operates on a Self Catered basis.

In Self Catered accommodation, students are responsible for providing and preparing their own food and are provided with shared kitchen facilities.

In Self Contained accommodation, students are responsible for providing and preparing their own food and have their own private kitchen in their flat.

2. Room Type

  • Standard Room without Washbasin
  • Standard Room with Washbasin
  • Enhanced Room with Washbasin
  • Premium Room
  • Ensuite Room
  • Premium Ensuite Room
  • Studio Flat
  • One Bedroom Flat
  • Large One Bedroom Flat
  • University House

Please see the section about our rooms for a description of what each Room Type offers.

3. Contract Duration

  • Short contract
  • Standard contract (excluding Easter)
  • Standard contract
  • Long contract

Short contracts are only available in certain Halls (please see the Fees tables for details). These contracts end in the middle of June rather than finishing on the 1st of July.

Standard contracts (excluding Easter) cover the same period as the Standard contracts, but reflect the need to vacate the accommodation for the Easter vacation period.

Standard contracts cover both the Christmas and Easter vacation periods. These are the contracts most commonly required by Undergraduate students.

Long contracts cover the Christmas, Easter and Summer vacation periods. These are generally only required by Postgraduate students.

In general, which contract length you require will depend on the length of your course. Please check with your Academic School.

Students who need to be here for a few weeks beyond the end of the standard contract in July can apply for OTR (out of term residence) for the number of weeks they require instead of committing to the full 51 week Long contract.

4. Hall Complex

  • Glen Eyre
  • Small Halls
  • Wessex Lane
  • Liberty Living (Orion's Point)

Please see the About Our Halls section for more information on these Complexes.

Please note
that each of your preferences must be different: for example, you cannot state Self Catered / Standard let / Ensuite / Glen Eyre more than once on your application, but you could also enter Self Catered / Standard let / Ensuite / Small Halls.
