We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in the field of ageing; experience in research in  one or more of the following fields: social policy in the UK, Europe or international; in China or in south-east Asia would be advantageous.

You will be a part of the University of Southampton, an institution in the top 1% of world Universities and one of the UK's top 15 research-intensive universities.  We have an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise activities.

You will work in the Department of Gerontology, situated in Social Sciences within the Faculty of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences. The Faculty brings together a unique range of disciplines and is committed to tackling the world's biggest challenges through interdisciplinary research.

Gerontology staff members were returned with Social Sciences staff under the 2008 RAE Social Policy and Administration (UoA40), which was ranked third in the UK.

You will primarily contribute to the postgraduate teaching programmes of the Centre for Research on Ageing (face-to-face students and Distance Learning) and MSc Global Ageing and Policy (Distance Learning), co-supervise MSc students and, where appropriate, supervise PhD students. You will also develop your own and collaborative research agenda and have opportunities to collaborate in existing major research council funded programmes within the Centre for Research on Ageing, where appropriate.

You will have a Degree and PhD (or be registered for one) in Gerontology or in one of the Social Sciences or in a discipline closely related to the study of ageing and the lifecourse (eg. Social Policy, Demography, Sociology, Health, Social Care, Psychology, Geography) and have the ability to deliver high-quality teaching in Gerontology, both on the face-to-face and Distance Learning MSc programmes. A commitment to working across traditional disciplinary boundaries, both in research and teaching is valued.

The position is tenable from 1 July 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter. Consideration will be given to requests for part-time or job share appointments.
