Events volunteering

Are you passionate about events? Would you like to contribute to the organisation of some of the most exciting days in the alumni events calendar? Duties could include anything from helping to research and prepare exhibition boards and other materials to moving equipment and assisting with setting up for events. It isn't always glamorous but if you are looking to get into the events industry and need some experience this could be a brilliant opportunity for you!

We are looking for friendly graduates who are happy to talk to students and their parents about their time here. You don’t have to be an encyclopaedia; having studied here is more than enough! Volunteering at Nuffield

Nuffield is entering a new phase in its history and you could be part of this vibrant theatre. Front of house volunteers assist with ushering, customer service and retail and receive a uniform and full training along with a host of fantastic benefits.

Vintage vehicle maintenance

Do you like to tinker with vintage vehicles? Are you an engineer, a mechanic or do you just enjoy getting your hands dirty working on engines and cars? You might be interested in helping to maintain the University's own 1929 vintage bus, the 'Toastrack' – you could even learn to drive it. The team usually meets on a Sunday (mainly during term time) for three to four hours. As well as working on the maintenance of they bus they also drive it for events at the University – such as the Anniversary Class Reunion – and take it to rallies and on trips. It's not all about getting covered in engine oil though. If you'd like to help but can't tell a wrench from a hammer then there are secretary and treasurer positions available also.

Graduate Internship Pilot

Our award-winning Excel Southampton Internship Programme successfully places over 400 students annually.  Whilst organisations benefit by appointing top talent and fresh thinking into their business, students benefit from work experience opportunities that enhance their CV and improve their employability prospects.  We are now expanding this programme to provide opportunities for Graduates to undertake internships and work with companies for 12 weeks during January to March each year.

As alumni, we would like to invite you to participate in this pilot and help develop the next generation whilst enjoying the benefits of appointing additional short-term resource; accessing highly educated and motivated talent; developing a recruitment pipeline (without incurring agency fees)…  actually we will make a financial contribution towards the three-month salary.

If you would like to know more about how your organisation could engage in this pilot please contact Ann Cooper, Head of Placements and Work Experience.
