Sign up to help current students understand the jobs market
What is it?
The Southampton Careers Network provides opportunities for Southampton students to learn more about particular occupations by finding out more about the work experiences of University of Southampton alumni. All alumni who join are asked to complete a career profile including details of their current role and their career to date. This profile will only be visible to current students who have logged into a secure part of the University website.
Alumni are also asked to volunteer as a Careers Contact for current students to ask careers-related questions by email, or to help the University Careers Advisory Service by giving occasional careers talks or contributing to publications for students.
How does it work?
Students search under industry specific criteria, and will be shown the career biography of alumni who have signed up to the scheme. If the alumnus has opted-in, the student can also email them directly with specific questions.
How do you sign up?
First, register your career details online with the Alumni Relations Office, choosing whether or not you're happy for students to email you direct. Once your profile has been completed, it will be submitted to the Careers Advisory Service.
What happens next?
Students will be invited to search the career database to find out more about their chosen industry. If you opt to be contacted via email, they may be in touch with you but your contact details will not be visible. Only your name and degree subject will be visible to students.
