Research Posts:
The ANTC is often looking for new research staff to work on particular projects in the field of aerodynamics and aeroacoustics. For more information, please contact Professor Xin Zhang.
PhD/EngD Studentships:
The ANTC is continually looking for post-graduate students to work on a broad array of topics in the field of aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, flow control etc. Fully funded studentships are often available - further details on the application process can be found within SES Postgraduate opportunities. Please state that you would like to join the Airbus Noise Technology Centre and that you are seeking a full studentship or contact Professor Xin Zhang for more information.
Current vacancies:
1. EPSRC/Airbus CASE Award: Efficient Computational Aeroacoustic Modelling of Airframe Noise
An EPSRC industrial CASE award PhD studentship is now available in the area of computational aeroacoustic modelling of airframe noise at the Airbus Noise Technology Centre. The studentship provides a unique opportunity to work closely with Airbus on a relevant and exciting engineering problem. The studentship fully covers University tuition fees and provides a tax-free bursary of £13,290 per year, rising annually in line with the UK Government (EPSRC) recommended rate, for a 3 ½ year duration. The CASE award also provides the student with a top up of £4430 per year on top of the EPSRC contribution.
Project description:
The project is related to efficient computational aeroacoustic modelling of an important airframe noise component. This will include the use and development of computational fluid dynamics and aeroacoustics solvers. The aims include: a) large scale computer modelling of the noise radiated from an important airframe noise component; b) development of new efficient computational methods for flow generated noise associated with airframe noise; c) develop aerodynamic and aeroacoustic physics models for important components of a large civil aircraft. The PhD studentship will provide a good opportunity to work with one of the largest aerospace companies in the world, and explore relevant problems in the aerospace industry. The project will also include an extended period of working with the sponsors.

2. EngD Studentship: Minimising the Environmental Impact of Advanced Aircraft Designs
An EPSRC-supported EngD studentship is available in the area of aircraft aerodynamics and aeroacoustics at the Airbus Noise Technology Centre (http://www.antc.soton.ac.uk) and Industry Doctoral Training Centre (IDTC) in Transport & the Environment (www.soton.ac.uk/idtc), University of Southampton. The studentship will fully cover University tuition fees (at EU/UK level only) and provide a tax-free stipend of £14,400 per annum, rising annually in line with the UK Government (EPSRC) recommended rate, for a 4-year duration. The funding for the EngD studentship is available to UK and EU-eligible applicants only.
Project description:
The EngD project will focus on an area related to new efficient and low emission advanced aircraft configurations, i.e. open rotor propulsion, with the aim of understanding and reducing overall aircraft noise. The student will therefore have an exciting opportunity to contribute toward the development of future aircraft design. The research will include: a) large scale computer modelling of new aircraft configurations; b) development of new computational methods for flow generated noise associated with aircraft/openrotor noise, d) development of aerodynamic and aero-acoustic analytical prediction methods. The EngD studentship will provide a good opportunity to work with one of the largest aerospace companies in the world, and explore relevant problems in the aerospace industry.
