Professor Matthew Johnson is a Visiting Professor of Archaeology at the University of Southampton.

I joined Archaeology at Southampton in 2004 from Durham, where I was Lecturer and then Professor. I was Head of Archaeology between 2005 and 2008, and was Deputy Head of School and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities between 2009 and 2011. In 2011, I moved from Southampton to Northwestern University in the USA. I am now affiliated to Southampton in a Visiting Professor role, and continuing research and field projects in southern England in collaboration with Southampton staff and research students.
