Documenting Gaza’s deteriorating heritage

Join Dr Georgia Andreou, Lecturer in Archaeology & Sustainability at the University of Southampton, for a talk that explores the interdisciplinary approaches employed in Archaeology to document and monitor heritage sites, especially those that are either inaccessible to archaeologists or deteriorating rapidly.

The event will focus on the Gaza Strip, where the University of Southampton has been conducting research since 2021.

Georgia will illustrate The University's collaboration with local archaeologists to create a baseline of archaeological information, which is now being used to evaluate damage and destruction at archaeological sites.

Additionally, she will demonstrate the methods currently used to monitor Gaza's ongoing and unprecedented destruction.

The event will finish with a Q&A session.

Suitability: Ages 16+

Check-in: from 18:00, just outside the Avenue Cafe' in front of the side entrance from the car park to Building 65.

PLEASE NOTE: a few additional tickets will be available on the day at the ticket desk, on a first-come-first-served basis.

Accessibility: Venue has full wheelchair access and hearing loop is available. Priority seating for deaf, hard of hearing and visually impaired in the first front row.
