Fifth Wellington Congress, 5–7 April 2013
The Fifth Wellington Congress will take place at the University of Southampton's Avenue Campus from Friday 5 April (with a 13.30 start) until the afternoon of Sunday 7 April. As well as keynotes from Rory Muir, Emma Clery and Chris Woolgar, there will be some 20 papers on a variety of topics - most with a focus on the Peninsular War - including presentations on military engineering and tactics; graphic and literary representations of Wellington and Waterloo; and case studies on individuals, and events that occurred in 1813.
On the Friday evening there will be a visit to historic Southampton. The celebrations on Saturday evening will commence with a reception and private view of a Wellington related exhibition in the Special Collections Gallery followed, as is traditional, by the Congress dinner. Sunday afternoon will provide the opportunity to attend a concert by Professor David Owen Norris in the Turner Sims Concert Hall on a piano that once belonged to the Duke of Wellington.
