Prestigious nomination for Excel intern

We are extremely pleased to announce that former Excel intern Georgina Abraham has been shortlisted as a finalist for the National Undergraduate Employability Awards (NUE).

This prestigious national event is held each year in order to celebrate the outstanding achievements of all those involved in undergraduate work experience, with UK employers, students and universities competing for recognition.

Georgina, a recent graduate of Biochemistry, spent the summer working as an intern for Taragenyx supported by the Excel Southampton Internship Programme.

Here she helped to develop the organisation’s antimicrobial coating which is used to reduce the impact of an implant on patients by optimising healing, and is currently being tested for use in both the Netherlands and Edinburgh.

Due to her outstanding work, Georgina was nominated by her employer for the Excel Southampton Award for Creativity in September.

Assessed by an independent panel of judges, Georgina went on to win this award. Here at Southampton, the Excel team decided to nominate Georgia for ‘Best Student Contribution to a Small to Medium-Sized Employer’ in the NUE Awards.
