Event details

Continued loss of biodiversity and the goods and services it provides has led to the adoption of numerous international agreements to halt biodiversity loss. I will review progress towards the internationally-agreed 2020 Aichi biodiversity targets, and present projections of indicators to 2020 to assess whether which targets we are likely to meet by 2020. Further I will focus on one conservation strategy, protected areas, and present analyses of their effectiveness in preventing conversion of habitats and loss of species.

  • Review of current progress towards meeting internationally-agreed biodiversity targets
  • Assessment of likelihood of meeting biodiversity targets by 2020
  • Analyses of protected area effectiveness in conserving habitats and species
