There is currently much excitement surrounding the rapidly growing discipline of synthetic biology, which utilizes the design and construction principles of engineering to develop, evolve and standardize biological components and systems.
The session will begin with an introduction to synthetic biology by Ali Tavassoli followed by an exploration of its potential future by artist/designer Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg. Marcus Dymond will present a description of some of the ethical challenges of synthetic biology.
This session will be of interest to people within art, design, social sciences, chemistry, biological sciences and engineering.
Dr Ali Tavassoli,Reader in Chemical Biology
Daisy Ginsberg, Designer: Alexandra Daisy Gisberg. Alexandra Daisy Gisberg is an artist, designer and writer, interrogating emerging technology and science, and the function and future of design.
