In March, we introduced the new Contemporary Themes and Employability Week for the MBA programme, hosting a number of talks and workshop sessions with guest speakers from industry.

The theme for the week was ‘Masters of the Exponential Age’ which explores issues of technology-driven change in business today, specifically focusing on big data, artificial intelligence and robotics and business sustainability. This is the first time that we have run such a week on the MBA programme and it proved to be a lively forum for discussion between business practitioners and our MBA students.

The week kick started with the interactive workshop on Masters of the Exponential Age, with students working on case studies and presenting their findings. Tuesday started with guest speakers – Andy Alferovs and Jerry Duckworth from Kortext talking about ‘Creating New Businesses in a Digital World’ and Matt Mellodey and Lou Johnson from J.P. Morgan delivering a session on ‘Technology and Governance in the Exponential Age’. On the final day we welcomed speakers James Robey from Capgemini to talk on ‘Sustainability: Practitioner and Researcher insights’ and Jonathan Garrett from Prudential to run a session on the ‘Sustainability: The Big Boardroom Agenda’. The week finished with some employability sessions on careers in management consultancy and the role of personal branding in career development.

The week was a huge success and greatly enjoyed by the students who greatly valued the opportunity for interactive learning of this nature and the interaction with industry practitioners.
