Laucning the new Sustainable Salon Certification

The Ecohair and Beauty project is run by Dr Denise Baden, Associate Professor within the University’s Business School, in association with industry partners (VTCT, Habia) as well as the National Hairdressers Federation and others.

Having been funded for a number of years by the ESRC to help embed more sustainable practices across the hairdressing sector, Ecohair and Beauty will be launching a new sustainable salon certification at the Shine Salon on Highfield Campus (above the University shop).

Taking place on Wednesday 5 April from 18:00 – 19:15, the event will feature a talk from Dr Baden on sustainable hair care. Please note that this event will be filmed, and any attendees willing to be interviewed may be included in an upcoming promotional video for the project.

The project’s website is designed to be an open access resource for hairdressers, trainers and colleges to enable them to adopt more sustainable practices. Featuring a ‘virtual salon’ which forms part of the new Sustainable Stylist and Sustainable Salon certification, the training platform takes between 20 and 60 minutes to complete, and will qualify an individual for their certificate. Wine, nibbles and free samples will be available for attendees at the launch event.
