Student Engagement at the University of Southampton

 

We offer a range of services designed to enable organisations of all sizes to raise their company profile, promote their recruitment opportunities and engage with our students and graduates.

The Careers and Employability Events team will coordinate your event, publicise it via social media, send targeted discipline specific emails and provide a meet and greet service when you arrive. We are on hand to answer any questions and our experienced team will work with you to ensure you select the event which is right for your organisation.

Our events are open to all students regardless of academic discipline or level of study and we encourage both undergraduates and postgraduates to attend. However, if you wish to target a particular academic discipline (detailed list here) or student group we can work with Academic staff and Student Societies to help market your event to the most relevant students.

I cannot believe these numbers.  This exceeds the numbers we had at another University earlier last week.  This is very exciting and like you said, a great SUCCESS!!!! Thank you again for all your help and support for the Tech Showcase, I look forward to working with you again in the future.

When Can You Deliver an Event?

Our events programme runs each year from October to December, and again from February to March. All employer events are free of charge (excluding any catering requirements or the use of Students' Union or Conference and Hospitality facilities).

Student registration for events is completed online and data such as year group, course and email details can be provided to you once your activity has taken place.

What Types of Activities Can You Deliver?

We have a wide variety of pre-scheduled activities available for booking, as well as the option for you to deliver activities outside our usual programme.

How to Book an Event

Our 2016-17 employer events programme is now closed. You can register your interest to deliver an employer activity for the academic year 2017-18 by logging in to MyCareer and updating your organisation’s areas of interest. This will ensure you receive a notification once bookings open, typically towards the end of June each year.

International Student Recruitment

With roughly 5000 students from more than 135 different nations studying here we are truly an international university. We can help with your international recruitment, through facilitating events specifically delivered at these students. Please contact us via employ@southampton.ac.uk before booking to discuss the options.

How We Promote Your Event

All Employer Events are promoted using targeted emails based on student discipline and the type of activity taking place.

We will also:

• Liaise with Faculty Employability Leads about your upcoming event
• Advertise your event via Facebook and Twitter in the run up to your event
• Promote your event through relevant society groups
• Advertise via a monthly newsletter circulated within our Halls of Residence (dependant on the amount of events running for that period)
• Advertise via the Careers Service monthly newsletter
• All events booked in advance of the Autumn term running from October to December will be advertised using company logos in all our internally produced marketing materials
• Recruiter in Residence bookings benefit from being advertised both on the student webpages and internally produced marketing materials
• A weekly schedule of events is uploaded to the student login page of MyCareer which increases exposure for all events.

Employer Workshops

Skills sessions offer employers the opportunity to become actively involved in the development and learning of our students.

Insight into … Talks

Give students an insight into opportunities within a specific employment sector or deliver a talk on a specific career path.

Mock Assessment Centres

These sessions also allow you the opportunity to test out new exercises that you may be looking to use in future Assessment Centres.

Outdoor Activities

Find out about organising an event in a high footfall area belonging to our Students' Union.

Recruiter in Residence

A new offering, which takes place in our Careers Centre on Tuesdays during the autumn and spring term.

1:1 Activities

Meet with students individually to provide CV feedback or a mock interview.
