UoS Internships

Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise provides specialist support to organisations looking to recruit students for internship projects throughout the year. UoS Internships are available to UK-based employers including SMEs, start-ups, large graduate recruiters and third sector organisations. 

Internships facilitate the opportunity for businesses to recruit students to get involved in a meaningful project and gain valuable work experience, whilst bringing creativity and productivity to host organisations. Our dedicated Employer Engagement team will support you throughout the recruitment process and beyond.

We work with organisations of various sizes, so whether you’re a small start-up looking to hire your first intern, a charity requiring extra resource, or a seasoned graduate recruiter, we have the expertise to guide and support you through the process.

Below are the criteria for an internship to be eligible for the programme:

  • UoS Internships must be a minimum duration of 2 weeks / 70 hours 
  • All UoS Internships must be exclusive to University of Southampton students 
  • Internships must be based in the UK 
  • Organisations must have Employer Liability and Public Liability Insurance with cover of £5,000,000 
  • The internship needs to provide a meaningful project, giving real value to a host organisation and allowing students a focus to develop their skills 
  • We expect all employers to pay a minimum hourly rate for an intern in line with the Real Living Wage
  • Interns must have access to a Line Manager or a point of contact throughout the internship 
  • You must complete an Internship Agreement before the internship commences

We currently have the opportunity for organisations to benefit from financial support when recruiting an intern from the University of Southampton. To apply for funding, we require organisations to meet various eligibility criteria. To confirm your eligibility, please complete our criteria form or contact employ@southampton.ac.uk. The Employer Engagement team will then be in touch to discuss your options.
