Do employees really value the Graduate Passport?

A number of companies and organisations are involved in a variety of ways with the Graduate Passport from sponsorship to active participation by providing courses and work experience. This provides you with a valuable opportunity to network with key local, regional and national employers. The time and commitment that companies invest into The Graduate Passport demonstrates the importance they place on it.

"The Graduate Passport programme is an excellent tool that can help students develop Santander Universities Logothe skills they need to excel in the job market. In the current economic climate good academic results might not be enough to stand out from the crowd.  At Abbey-Santander we value other qualities such as the ability to work in a team, a "can do" attitude, and the knowledge of one foreign language. All of them make a difference when applying for a job."

“Volunteering provides an excellent opportunity to develop personal and professional volunteering england logoskills that recruiters value, whilst enabling students to engage with their local (and global) community in a positive and meaningful way. Volunteering provides an insight into a profession and a company; allows an individual to build confidence in a role; develop or enhance relevant skills; generate useful contacts that can offer “insider” knowledge; and potentially lead to paid positions. The University of Southampton’s Graduate Passport is an excellent example of an institution providing their students with opportunities to develop skills and experiences that business and community value.”

Andrea Grace Rannard,

Head of Student Volunteering, Volunteering England

"Whist studying at Southampton University I was very conscious of the need to do more to give me an edge when applying for jobs. To that end, I became involved with the Management Society and the Baseball club - becoming president of both in my 2nd year. I also undertook a term time job, organizing student surveys - giving me experience of the working world and some pocket/beer money. Finally I did an internship between my 2nd and 3rd years, leading to me being offered a job at the end of the summer - giving me something to work towards in my final year and saving hours of applications when I needed to be focusing on my studies. I can't encourage current students enough to start looking early and be proactive whilst at Uni."J.P Morgan logo
