As a Biological Sciences student you will develop a wide range of skills that can make you employable in a huge variety of careers - including both scientific and non-scientific roles.

Skills developed through your studies include the ability to

  • analyse and assess information and data
  • apply numeracy, communications and information technology skills efficiently.
  • use effective interpersonal and team working skills including demonstrating an appreciation of different points of view
  • self-manage, think independently, set tasks and solve problems.

These pages illustrate the huge range of possible careers including scientific roles in the Pharmaceutical Industry, NHS, Health Protection Agency, Government Laboratories,Water Companies etc.

In addition there are opportunities to work in a variety of Environmental careers - possible employers include wildlife trusts, local authorities and environmental consultancies.

Biological Sciences graduates are also successful in many business careers incuding sales and marketing, finance and IT. In addition there are good opportunities for postgraduate study and research as well as the chance to train in a number of health professions as a graduate entrant.
