Improving clinical outcomes for patients with mood and anxiety disorders.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a common disorder, often present with other mental disorders, particularly major depression, other anxiety disorders, alcohol dependence and physical illnesses. It is the most common anxiety disorder in primary medical care settings, affecting between 4.1-6.6% of the population at any stage of their life, and is associated with increased use of health services. Women are almost twice as likely to be affected as men. Other risk factors include being older than 24 years; being separated, widowed or divorced; being unemployed, and not working outside the home.

Research at our Centre for Clinical and Experimental Psychopharmacology aims to develop more understanding of the GAD and to investigate new treatments and innovative therapies.
