Dr Bram Sengers

Modelling cell invasion in scaffold

My group's research centres on improving skeletal tissue regeneration strategies. We use a combination of computational and experimental methods to first identify and quantify the physical and biological mechanisms governing cell behaviour, and then apply this information in predictive computational modelling to inform regenerative medicine applications. Specific interests include: Cell migration, colonization and architecture of porous structures for bone repair to improve tissue-implant integration. Nutrient transport and cellular utilization in tissue engineered constructs for cartilage replacement. Extracellular matrix production and how this relates to mechanical tissue functionality.
