I am extremely grateful to the Onassis Foundation for awarding me a prestigious scholarship in order to study instrumental analytical chemistry in Southampton.
1. What made you select the University of Southampton to study that degree?
Α multitude of factors led to my decision to choose Southampton for my master’s degree; the most important being the fact that the MSc in Instrumental Analytical Chemistry that the University of Southampton offers is unique in its structure and was exactly what I had been looking for. Equally important was the fact that the admissions’ process was strict, making me feel confident about the high standards of the course.
2. How did being located at Highfield benefit your time at university?
Being located at Highfield was a joy; Hartley Library is there, as well as most of the faculties. That made it easier to meet with friends over the course of the day, or make new ones. Highfield campus can be easily reached by bus and is the heart of the University, where interesting events take place almost on a daily basis!
3. What did you enjoy most about your degree?
What I enjoyed most about my degree was being able to obtain practical, hands-on experience using state-of-the-art equipment while being trained on the prevalent modern analytical techniques. However, it was the opportunity to work with inspiring individuals, passionate about what they do and willing to disseminate their knowledge that made my experience unique.
4. What opportunities did you take up that really added value to your experience as a student?
Volunteering was a new experience I had the pleasure to go through while studying at the University of the Southampton. Among other activities I took part in the “Educating Global Citizens” Research Symposium and assumed the roles of Session Chair and Member of the Judging Committee. It was a novel and fun experience that gave me the chance to expand my horizons and go out of my comfort zone. Overall, being a part of it was extremely rewarding.
5. How did your studies and experience at Southampton shape your future?
I feel extremely confident about the future. The entire experience at Southampton gave me the chance to emancipate myself and take charge of my life. I feel I have been given the tools to achieve anything I set my mind to!
6. What are you most proud of (or please give a highlight of your career so far)?
I am extremely grateful to the Onassis Foundation for awarding me a prestigious scholarship in order to study instrumental analytical chemistry in Southampton.
7. What advice would you give to a student starting their degree at Southampton?
I would advise them to be as organised and prepared as they can, because time flies by and Southampton has endless opportunities to offer, both in the lecture theatres and outside of them, be it in the form of career fairs, volunteering initiatives or even meeting people from all around the world.
8. If you had your time at University again is there anything you would do differently?
I would gladly do it all over again and I wouldn’t change a single thing.
