Professor Phil Gale, Head of Chemistry says: “It’s great to see all our successful graduates receiving their degrees after many years hard work, then leave to make their way in the world.”

Harriet Clarke, who has graduated with an MChem degree, combined study at Southampton with a six month placement in Western Australia and will stay on for a PhD. She completed her dissertation at Curtin University in Perth. “It’s a wonderful scheme with so many places to choose from, I really recommend it. I studied in the PhD lab with a leading chemist and managed some travelling as well.”

Chemistry alumnus Professor Dominic Tildesley returned to Southampton to receive an honorary degree. He now runs a European thinktank in Switzerland that simulates and models molecules and atoms. “Even as a 17 year old I was struck by what a friendly and pleasant place it was with a commitment to excellence. I had a wonderful education here.”
