Postgraduate researcher Marco Facciotti has been invited to join a prestigious international working group that advises the electrical power industry around the world.

At the age of 26, he is the youngest regular member of WG A2.40, a multidisciplinary group of chemists and engineers from countries including the US and Japan as well as Europe, part of the International Council for Large Electric Systems (CIGRE).

“This is a valuable opportunity for me at this stage in my career,” explains Marco who is in his final year at Southampton. “After graduating, my aim is to enter the electrical power industry and believe the chance to meet leading professional scientists and take part in these high level discussions will benefit me.”

Marco has already attended the group’s meetings in Turin, Budapest and Paris presenting his research, on the invitation of his PhD sponsor National Grid UK, because of his interest in copper sulphide long-term mitigation and risk assessment. In particular, he has actively contributed to the definition and revision of international guidelines for the use of metal passivators in oil-filled transformers.
