Flexible Learning at Southampton

About us

Creating personalisation and flexibility in learning

We want to offer our students a distinctive Southampton educational experience, through ambitious, flexible and high quality programmes of study.

Through an innovative approach to our curriculum we are developing opportunities for our students to exercise choice and personalise your learning, if you wish to do so. In February 2011 we introduced a set of new, interdisciplinary modules and enabled more of our students to study a language or take modules from outside of your core disciplines. From September 2013 we took this a step further and eligible students in Humanities and single-honours Social Sciences, Geography, Education, Biology, Zoology and Physics are now able to choose a Minor subject to go alongside their main discipline.

Making a major difference to your degree.  Watch the video below to hear Dr Peter Smith, University Director of Education, talk about Minors.
