Welcome to the Disability and Citizenship Learning activity.
Aims of the activity
The main aim of this activity is to challenge the socially constructed barriers, behaviours and attitudes that continue to deny full citizenship to many disabled people
While carrying out the activity you will:
- Be encouraged to critically reflect on your own attitudes in relation to disability
- Gain a more socially oriented understanding of disability and citizenship
- Practically consider typical barriers to equal participation in University life experienced by students with disabilities
Learning Outcomes
Having completed this activity you should:
- Have a basic understanding of the social construction of disability
- Be aware of some typical physical, cultural and social barriers to full citizenship experienced by many disabled people
- Be able to practically identify and address issues related to disability discrimination in your own University environment
