Throughout this activity you have been asked to reflect on the knowledge and skills that are needed in order to be a citizen.
In Task 1 you were asked to take our citizenship quiz (which is based upon the test that new immigrants are required to take). Did you pass? How do you feel about your result? You were also asked to think about how appropriate and effective this type of test and the ensuing ceremony are for preparing immigrants for British citizenship.
Task 2 encouraged you to think about your own experience of citizenship education at school. You were asked, again, to consider how appropriate and effective citizenship education in is in providing the knowledge and skills necessary to be a citizen and whether it should be continued at university level.
If you have carried out these tasks you should now be able to:
- Assess the extent to which the citizenship test and ceremony are an effective process in establishing an individual's British citizenship.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of citizenship education in British schools.
- Express an informed opinion on the knowledge and skills necessary for citizenship and how these can be acquired.
