Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences
The Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences (CLAS) is a growing academic group within the Academic Unit of Medical Education at the University of Southampton. The main focus of CLAS is to provide teaching and learning in anatomy for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Who we are
We are a team of 15 dedicated and experienced staff, who are committed to providing a stimulating educational experience for students of medicine and other health professions who wish to learn anatomy.
Staff in CLAS undertake a high teaching load and make significant contributions to curriculum management of the Bachelor of Medicine programmes. Several staff members are also involved in biomedical and educational research projects.
Anatomical sciences laboratory
The facilities in CLAS include a recently refurbished Anatomical Sciences Laboratory which contains a wide range of prosected specimens, models and other learning resources that are available for professional courses. Technical and teaching staff may be available to assist on an individual basis.
In addition to providing anatomy teaching for undergraduate students of medicine and other health professions we also work with a range of postgraduates to provide continuing education. These include surgeons (Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons) and anaesthetists (Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists).
Bequeathals
We are very grateful to our donors whose generosity enables us to provide an invaluable opportunity for medical students, doctors and other health professionals to study anatomical sciences through anatomical examination, education, research and training.
In order to do this we are licensed by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA).
