Postgraduate

CMRC offers a Masters programme and has a growing number of MPhil/PhD students undertaking a variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research.
For Masters level work, students should normally have a good 2.1 degree in a humanities discipline and an interest in exploring the history, ideas, and culture of the medieval and renaissance periods.
We normally expect our MPhil/PhD students to have a Masters degree in an appropriate subject, but can also accommodate students who have relevant practical, archival or museum experience. We welcome students from any humanities discipline but the wide range of our staff research interests and their commitment to interdisciplinary and cross-period research means that we would hope to be able to match you with a team of people able and willing to supervise your project.
Funding
Doctoral and Masters students wishing to undertake doctoral research or masters study in CMRC in topics which cross disciplinary boundaries may be eligible to be considered for the disciplinary awards available under the AHRC Block Grants Partnership scheme. The School will advertise these awards on an annual basis. The next funding round will take place in 2011.
A range of School of Humanities scholarships and bursaries is also available. Details of these awards can be found on the postgraduate pages of the various discipline sites -Archaeology, English, History, Music. Please contact Dr Peter Clarke (P.D.Clarke@soton.ac.uk) to discuss your proposal before submitting your application.
