Stephen obtained an Mchem from Bangor University in June 2008, and was awarded he PhD in 2013 from the University of Southampton under the supervision of Dr Chris Skylaris. His thesis work aimed at using large-scaling quantum mechanical calculations for the prediction of small molecule-protein binding affinities.
His current work in the groups of Prof. Essex and Dr Skylaris looks at conformational analysis of fluorinated molecules using QM and MM methods as well as protein-ligand binding free energy calculations.
Outside of research, Stephen has an active interest in outdoor pursuits such as mountaineering, climbing, sailing, diving and free diving. He is also a student and teacher of martial arts.
