Alvaro Ruiz-Serrano

I completed my undergraduate degree in Physics at the University of Oviedo, Spain, in 2004 and became a PhD student in the group of Dr. Skylaris at University of Southampton, UK. In parallel to my PhD studies, I graduated from my MSc degree in High Performance Computing at the University of Edinburgh, UK, in 2010.

My research interest are numerical methods applied to condensed matter theory within Quantum Mechanics which use parallel computation for large-scale calculations. I have been working in a range of applications of Density Functional Theory, including developments in accurate evaluation of atomic forces, geometry optimization of molecules, spatial representation of atomic orbitals, hybrid QM/QM approaches to DFT and simulations on metallic systems with localized orbitals.
