Supporting the strategic aims of the University 

Helping staff with legal queries they encounter in their professional capacity 

We offer a wide range of legal advice and support to the University’s Vice Chancellor’s Office, Professional Services, Schools, Faculties, Departments and subsidiary companies.

As part of our role we strive to develop awareness of University policies, legal issues, regulations and procedures by working closely with members of the University community.

Overview of Legal Services

We provide advice and assistance:

  • To the Vice- Chancellor, members of the Executive Group, the Chief Operating Officer, Professional Services and staff
  • In the drafting of University regulations, guidelines and policies
  • In respect of project support across the University

 We also:

  • Negotiate, prepare and draft legal documents as requested on behalf of the University except employment contracts.
  • Represent the University in litigation, arbitration and mediation.
  • Appoint external counsel where appropriate and prepare instructions and briefing papers.

Note that contracts with third parties are entered into by the University, not by individual staff members or Departments/Faculties of the University.
