This event is a great opportunity to see the University and get a feel for student life. You will be able to find out more from staff about your degree programme and from current students about living and studying at the University of Southampton.

The following events will be running throughout the day:

Tours

All tours will be available from 10:00am, last tours will commence at 1:00pm.

Highfield Campus Tours

Tours will depart as and when required from the Campus Tours stand in Building 38 (Staff Social Centre). Tours will be run by our current students and will last approximately 30 minutes.

The Hartley Library

Details of a self-guided tour of the Hartley Library (Building 12) will be available from the Library reception desk.

The Jubilee Sports Centre

Details of a self-guided tour of the Jubilee Sports Centre (Building 18) will be available from the Sports Centre reception desk.

University Residences Team, Building 37

The Residences team will be on hand in Building 37 to help visitors with accommodation queries.

Welcome Desk, Building 38 (Staff Social Centre)

Pick up general information about the University and enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee. Staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Get directions to Highfield Campus:

By car

From the M3: Follow signs for Southampton A33 (not Southampton Docks). Follow the A33 (Bassett Ave) through two roundabouts to a major intersection. The University is signposted. Turn left onto Burgess Road, then take the first right turning into University Road. After the third set of traffic lights turn right into Jubilee car park (just past the chaplaincy) and our Student Ambassadors will direct you to a space. You will then be able to follow our event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

From the M27: Take junction 5 (Southampton Airport/Eastleigh). If you are approaching from the east take the first exit off the roundabout. If approaching from the west take the fourth exit. Follow the A335 dual carriageway through three sets of traffic lights. At the fourth set of lights, the road divides. Turn right onto Burgess Road (McDonald’s will be on your left). Turn left into University Road, located about three quarters of a mile along Burgess Road (traffic light junction). After the third set of traffic lights turn right into Jubilee car park (just past the chaplaincy) and our Student Ambassadors will direct you to a space. You will then be able to follow our event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

Parking

Parking is available in the Jubilee car park off University Road, just next to the Jubilee Sports Centre. Our student ambassadors will be stationed at the car park to assist you. Parking is free and you don’t require a permit.

By train

For Highfield Campus alight at Southampton Airport Parkway station. Exit on the airport side of the station and catch a U1 uni-link bus (every 10 minutes) to the University campus. The cost is £3.50 for a day rider ticket. The transfer time is around 15 minutes. Taxis are also available at the station and cost around £10.00 (guide only).

On arrival at the Highfield Interchange follow the event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

By bus

The University’s own award-winning uni-link buses provide an interconnecting bus service between all University campuses, the city centre and public transport services (rail, air and ferry). The uni-link flat fare is £2.00 single or £3.50 for an All Day Travel Ticket. Please see the uni-link website for full details.

Follow the event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre)

By National Express Coach

Visitors arriving at the Highfield Campus Interchange by National Express Coach can alight here and follow the event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

By Ferry

Catch the uni-link U1 bus to the Highfield campus. The bus calls every 30 minutes at the bus stop in Town Quay Road (by Customs House clock, next to the traffic lights, outside the terminal entrance). The journey time is approximately 30 minutes.

On arrival at the Highfield Interchange follow the event signage to, Building 38 (Staff Social Centre)

By air

Southampton Airport provides a range of domestic and continental services. On exiting the airport cross over the road to the train station side of the road where you will see a uni-link bus stop. Catch the U1 uni-link bus service (every 10 minutes) direct to the Highfield campus.

On arrival at the Highfield Interchange follow the event signage to Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

Disabled Parking

Parking for disabled visitors is available in our visitor’s car park and the Jubilee Car Park located off off University Road, post code SO17 1TL. Please utilise any marked bay. Parking is free and does not require a permit.

How do I get all the academic and university information I need?

When you booked your place you requested a time when you can meet with staff from your chosen subject. You may have to wait for a short while to meet with staff depending on the number of visitors attending the event. In the event that staff will not be available at your chosen time, you will be contacted by e-mail to advise you of an alternative time.

The Welcome Desk in Building 38 (Staff Social Centre) will provide you with general information about the University and staff here will be happy to answer your questions. The Residences Team will also be available to talk to in Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

Where can I get food and refreshments?

Tea, coffee and water will be available for all visitors on arrival.

Sandwiches, snacks and additional hot drinks will be available to purchase from the Lattes Café in Building 38 (Staff Social Centre). Follow the event signage or ask a Student Ambassador in a yellow t-shirt to direct you.

First Aid

There will be first aid trained security personnel at Highfield Campus. If you need a first aider, please approach the nearest Student Ambassador or member of staff or contact the Welcome Desk in Building 38 (Staff Social Centre).

Lost Property and Meeting Point

The meeting point for lost persons will be at the Welcome Desk in, Building 38 (Staff Social Centre) on the Highfield Campus. This is also the location to enquire about lost property.
