AUDI3008 Work Experience 1

Module Overview

The module consists of your optional Semester 2 non-clinical-placement work experience. You will have preparatory sessions at university in Semester 1. This can be chosen prospectively together with AUDI3009 Work Experience 2 from the non-placement pathway or if transferring to the non-placement pathway after having started AUDI3007 (for example if you don’t pass the clinical competence elements of AUDI3007).

Module Aims

This module aims to give you an opportunity to deepen your knowledge of audiology, hearing science or related fields and how that relates to clinical practice, and to develop general professional skills and attitudes appropriate for a wide range of careers.

Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:

  • It is intended that on successful completion of the module you will be able to critically evaluate clinical practice in adult assessment and rehabilitation in terms of underpinning theory and evidence from a range of sources (including fundamental science, clinical studies, systematic reviews, guidelines and standards).

Costs associated with this module

Students are responsible for meeting the cost of essential textbooks, and of producing such essays, assignments, laboratory reports and dissertations as are required to fulfil the academic requirements for each programme of study.

In addition to this, students registered for this module typically also have to pay for:

Travel Costs for placements

Placement costs relate to: Possibly £44 for an additional criminal records check (Enhanced with list checks) before starting the work experience; this is in addition to the criminal records checks you paid for as part of your application to the programme. Some organizations require this; others do not Possibly costs of immunizations as part of your occupational health clearance. This depends on the immunizations you have had previously and whether additional immunizations are covered by your existing healthcare arrangements Travel to the organization and outstations. Accommodation during semester 2. See our website for work experience dates: www.southampton.ac.uk/audplace Travel to the University for two compulsory days of activities during the Spring placement. One day is typically in March (during which you will sit the exam); the other is typically in early June before you finish placement. You might also require over-night accommodation for those Sufficient appropriate clothing to meet our and the organization’s dress code Undergraduate students must register for travel/health insurance cover via the University online store whether abroad or within the UK or purchase their own private cover. For example, if you go to an organization with no outstations within walking distance from home in the UK and already have sufficient suitable clothing, your costs may be zero. If you go to an organization in Central London and also use public transport from a London-based private accommodation to the centre and several outstations, your costs could exceed £3000 across the entire work experience. Bursaries are not normally available for the work experience.
