Aims and Objectives
A workshop designed to develop a basic competence and confidence in presenting scientific research to professional and lay audiences.
Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- How to make an audience-centred case for the importance and conclusion of a piece of research.
- How to prepare effective slides thereby avoiding "Death by PowerPoint".
- Coping with nerves and boosting confidence
- Handling tough questions
- Presentations tips for international audiences and/or non-native English speakers
Various topics will be covered including: • Video-recorded presentations with peer and tutor feedback • Principles of slide design for visibility and meaning • Tips on body language and vocal characteristics (especially for non-native English speakers) • Techniques for reducing nerves and boosting confidence • Techniques for handling aggressive questions
