PSYC2024 Psychology Skills and Employability 2
This module sits alongside the academic modules that make up your degree programme. As such, this is a ZERO credit module. Nevertheless, we believe that this module is so important to your success that it should be taken by all students. Thus, it is a COMPULSORY module and your attendance is recognised through a Certificate of Attendance in ‘Psychology Skills and Employability 2’ on your degree transcript. The module will provide an essential opportunity for us to continue to support your development of key and transferable skills, with a benefit being felt in both your academic studies, and in the range of skills that you can showcase and discuss as you consider your career beyond University. It will consist of taught sessions, workshops, tutorial discussions and one-to-one meetings all aimed to maximise your path through your studies and towards your career.
Aims and Objectives
There are two intertwined aims associated with this module. The first aim is to provide defined and tailored opportunities to deliver training in key and transferable skills appropriate for your level of study. Our input will encourage reflection on your capabilities now, and will provide instruction to develop your capabilities in line with the challenges that we set you. In Year 2, you will deepen your critical thinking skills, reflect on teamworking skills, and receive support in making the most of your feedback opportunities. These will have a direct impact on your achievements in assignments and assessments for your academic modules. However, they will also enable you to build a portfolio of skills that will transfer to the workplace, or to further study. Consequently, the second aim is to provide input that will help you succeed in your career planning so that you can present yourself in the strongest possible way to future employers or postgraduate recruiters. Time will be given to enhancing your chances of success in the VRA scheme, and in the Year in Employment scheme. As such, this module links with every academic module in your programme through reinforcing the transferable skills embedded within your curriculum.
Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- will be able to reflect on both your academic skills and your transferable skills.
- will be able to identify mechanisms for improvement in both.
- will have a stronger sense of the career and study opportunities available to you beyond your degree
- will be in a better position to start to develop a meaningful portfolio of paid and unpaid positions to support your future applications.

Learning and Teaching
Teaching and learning methods
Teaching and learning methods will take the form of timetabled lecture sessions, workshops, tutorials, one-to-one learning opportunities, and Employability events with selected figures external to the University. All teaching and learning activities have been developed to deliver input appropriate for you as a Year 1 student. Consequently, there is an extensive programme of events designed to help you settle into the University. There is no assessment attached to this module. Attendance is strongly encouraged, and 80% attendance will be recognised through award of a Certificate of Attendance which you can list on your CV and which employers will welcome.
