Dr Agnese Vitali is Lecturer in Social Statistics and Demography within Social Sciences: Social Statistics & Demography at the University of Southampton.

I was appointed to a lectureship in Social Statistics and Demography at Southampton in 2013. Previously I was a research fellow at the Carlo F. Dondena Centre for Research on Social Dynamics and Public Policy in Italy. I hold a PhD in Statistics from Bocconi University in Italy, an MSc in Economic and Social Sciences also from Bocconi University, and a master in Demography from the European Doctoral School of Demography.

I collaborate with the ESRC Centre for Population Change at the University of Southampton and with the 'Dondena Gender Initiative' of the Carlo F. Dondena Centre for Research on Social Dynamics and Public Policy at Bocconi University.






Research interests

My main research interests relate to the study of gender roles, transition to adulthood and low fertility. I am also interested in applications of multilevel models and spatial econometrics to socio-demographic research problems.

My current research activity focuses on the emergence of Women as Main Earners & Female Breadwinners in Europe. Check out some relevant output here:
