1st Southampton Conference on the Credibility of Empirical Research (SCOCER)

Published: 16 March 2015

The Confidence Crisis in Science: can and should economics come to the rescue? A two-day event on July 3-4, 2015.

Supported by the University along with the Faculty of Social, Human and Mathematical Sciences and the Royal Economic Society, and organized by the Department of Economics, this conference provides an interdisciplinary environment consisting of researchers in Economics, Psychology and the biological sciences from Europe and the US.

The purpose of this conference is to examine what the recently documented ‘credibility crisis’ in science implies for economics. This includes both how tools from other disciplines can help assess the credibility of economic research, and how economic analysis can help us evaluate reform proposals for knowledge production in science tackling the credibility problem. The conference will also focus on public policy implications and have a roundtable discussion with editors, leaders of research centres, and other interested parties.
