My experience

Choosing Southampton
I was attracted to the University of Southampton because of its compact nature, its reliable transport links, its reputation, and also because the Economics Division had a friendly atmosphere when I visited.

Studying economics
Economics seemed like an ideal choice following my A levels – having not studied economics before, I felt it was something new and interesting to study. I also felt at the time that it would be an excellent degree to further my existing knowledge and provide a gateway into the financial working sector on graduating.

The quality of teaching is extremely high and the resources and support available to students is vast. I enjoy studying at Southampton because it is an environment in which you can succeed.

I think that the economics course is very good, as there is an element of choice within the degree programme. I feel that this gives me a chance to take responsibility for the options chosen to shape my own learning. Social Sciences offers a wide range of support too.

Life in Southampton
Southampton is a growing city with many different attractions. It is easily accessible and provides quick links to other parts of the coast (Portsmouth and Bournemouth). I am never stuck for any form of entertainment or activity. I also feel that the transport links are reliable and efficient, so that travel to other parts of the country for visiting friends is really easy.
