New Professor for Southampton’s Head of Lifelong and Work-Related Learning

Dr Jürgen Enders has been appointed as the new Head of the Lifelong and Work-Related Learning Research Centre (LaWRL) at Southampton Education School.

Jürgen, Professor of Higher Education, has recently stepped into the role at LaWRL that focuses on the changing relationship between education, the economy and society.

Its members explore the shifting patterns of participating in and transitioning between Further, Higher and Adult Education, and the opportunities individuals from different socio-economic, educational and employment backgrounds have for personal, educational, vocational and professional development.

Jürgen moved to the University of Southampton from the Centre for Higher Education Policy Studies in the Netherlands where he was Director. Previous to that he was Assistant Professor at the Centre for Research on Higher Education and Work, in Germany.

His research focuses on the study of institutional change in the field of universities and their role in society and the economy. Major areas of study have included the steering, funding and organisation of higher education and research; the socio-economic impact of universities; management/leadership and organisational change in universities; the student experience, employability and graduate careers; and academic work and career.

He is an Honorary Fellow of the Society for Research in Higher Education, a member of the Advisory Committee for Research and Knowledge Exchange of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, a member of the German Advisory Council for Education, and a member of the Research and Development Committee of the European Federation for Management Development. 

Jürgen is often asked to comment on national and international subjects and has recently been featured in the Times Higher Education and the Daily Mail.
