Innovative technologies for autism seminar

Published: 17 September 2015

The fourth seminar in our ESRC- funded series 'Innovative technologies for autism – critical reflections on digital bubbles' is taking place at the University of Southampton on Friday November 20th 2015.

This time the focus is ‘The Technology Bubble’ where the cutting edge technologies  will be explored that are being developed and used to support children and adults on the autism spectrum.

There is a very exciting line-up of speakers confirmed for the day:

  • Dr Thomas Parsons, Department of Psychology, University of North Texas – focusing on Augmented and Virtual Reality for assessment
  • Dr Ben Robins, School of Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire – focusing on robots as therapeutic tools
  • Dr Narcis Pares, ICT Department, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona – focusing on large-scale technologies for embodied interaction
  • Dr Lina Gega, Northumbria University – focusing on video-based immersive systems for supporting psychological and social skills

The idea of this seminar is to showcase both cutting-edge as well as practical and accessible uses of technology. The organisers are very keen to hear from practitioners and researchers who are using technologies in homes, schools, clinics and social care to support everyday activities and learning.
