University of Southampton alumnus Simon Alles (PGCE 2012-13) set a Guinness World record recently for the largest mathematical jigsaw.

Simon and 500 students at the British School of Bejing recently completed a 3348 piece the Tarsia jigsaw, designed by Simon, as part of a Charity Marathon event.

Simon explains “The first picture is how it was supposed to look like at the end, the second one is what the students actually achieved in our timeframe (about 60%). BSB are obviously the school’s initials; the other elements represent our departments. The red one is Chinese/Humanities, the blue-and-white one is a German ‘pretzel’ and the colourful one next to that is supposed to be a lithium atom. “
