Southampton Education School alumnus wins a national accolade

Published: 6 July 2016

University of Southampton alumnus Will Emeny (PGCE 2009-10), mathematics curriculum leader at Wyvern College, Fair Oak, beat off thousands of nominations to win a Silver Teaching Award. The award was presented to Will in a unique governors’ assembly last month.

Will is a nominee for the National Teaching Award for Secondary Teacher of the Year 2016 to be announced at a televised ceremony in London in October.

When the judges visited the college they discovered for themselves that he is first and foremost an inspirational teacher. He is also an excellent curriculum leader, an exceptional member of staff who enjoys national recognition for his work in mathematics.

Will has developed a numeracy programme (numeracy Ninjas) based on extensive research and it has been made available to schools and colleges worldwide.

The programme, free of charge, has gone viral in the mathematics world and is being used by thousands of students.
