Event details

This one day course is suitable for Heads of Science, aspiring Heads of Science and key stage coordinators. The course will show you how to analyse data and identify key areas to improve and lead your department in producing effective schemes of work

From September 2014, schools’ performance will be mainly measured by progression of students, rather than attainment. Knowing how well science is performing within your school context and effective use of data in the classroom to promote progression will become increasingly important. Teachers will need to be able to analyse data and to plan appropriate activities. The impact of activities on pupils’ progress will need to be assessed. An effective scheme of work is a key component in planning for progression over the course of a key stage.

Programme
The morning session will focus on the use of data to raise achievement and ensure progress in lessons. You will be expected to bring your own data to this session to analyse.
In the afternoon, you will focus on developing schemes of work. You will have the opportunity to explore the principles of effective schemes, to establish the key essentials of schemes of work and to manage the process of producing effective schemes within your department.

Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • Analyse data and identify key areas to improve
  • Lead your department in producing effective schemes of work

This course is suitable for Heads of Science, aspiring Heads of Science and key stage coordinators at secondary schools.
