Event details

Are you a subject specialist teaching secondary physics or chemistry? Would you like to support a colleague studying subject knowledge enhancement and train to deliver SKE? This professional development workshop is for subject specialists in schools and colleges who are able to mentor non-specialist colleagues, particularly those undertaking post-ITT subject knowledge enhancement (SKE), and would like to develop themselves to deliver subject knowledge training.

The Mathematics and Science Learning Centre (MSLC), University of Southampton is working with Ringwood School and the SPELL Teaching School Alliance (Southern Partnership for Excellence in Leadership & Learning) and Portsmouth Teaching School Alliance to co-deliver the Post-ITT Subject Knowledge Enhancement Programme (SKE) in computing, physics and chemistry. We have developed an innovative programme involving face-to-face training, online provision by webinars, coaching and mentoring through subject specialist colleagues in schools, impact evaluation and a research poster-based dissemination event.

We are looking for experienced subject specialists teaching in or around the Southampton/Portsmouth/Hampshire/Dorset areas who would be interested in mentoring a teacher undertaking subject knowledge enhancement.

What’s in it for you?

  • Free mentor training focussing on subject knowledge through MSLC
  • Free training in evaluation of impact through MSLC
  • Experience in mentoring colleagues
  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced deliverers of SKE with potential opportunities for you to deliver programmes in the future
