This half day course aims to help teachers understand and make the best use of the links between English and science in the primary classroom in line with the requirements of curriculum 2014.

During the morning teachers will have the opportunity to examine a large variety of ideas and activities that they can use with their children to maximise learning opportunities in both subjects.  The place of speaking and listening, emphasis on technical vocabulary and the use of fiction and non-fiction text will be explored during the morning.  Teachers will leave with a pack of materials to use with their children in school. 

Following the course participants will be able to:

  • identify the most appropriate links between English and science and understand how to plan these into lessons
  • develop strategies for raising attainment in science through speaking, listening and writing science
  • plan good use of reading and research skills in science
