Event details

This course will look at subject knowledge, progression and assessment of phonics. We will explore a range of different tasks to help children’s phonics development and consider how phonics needs to link to reading and the rest of the curriculum to ensure good progress.


Participants will be able to:

  • Review their subject knowledge and understanding of progression and assessment in the teaching of phonics.
  • Identify tasks to help children’s phonic development.
  • Consider the links between phonics, reading and other curriculum areas, ensuring children are making good progress.

Session 1 – Monday 26th September 2016, 16.15 – 18.00
Session 2 – Wednesday 2nd November 2016, 16.15 – 18.00

Course fee: £20 per session or £30 for both

Speaker information

Dr Miranda Dodd,Our literacy programme is led by Dr Miranda Dodd, from Southampton Education School, University of Southampton. Miranda has a wealth of teaching experience, and is currently teaching English on the Primary PGCE. She has a special interest in phonics, early literacy, grammar, children’s literature and the importance of motivating all children to read and write.
