Event details

This two hour course aims to prepare initial teacher trainees for the Literacy Professional Skills Test. This skills test is one of the requirements that all applicants must pass prior to the commencement of initial teacher training. Your ability to apply specific linguistic rules to both reading and writing activities are central to this test. Suitable for initial teacher trainee applicants prior to commencing their training course. Participants will work collaboratively to explore different techniques and strategies. Whilst we do not guarantee a pass, this session will seek to develop attendees’ communication skills.

  • Identify how language is used to suit a professional tone.
  • Read a text and provide answers to comprehension questions that
    demonstrate their understanding of it.

  • Revise spelling rules and reading skills that can be applied to the accurate spelling of words.
(e.g. homophones, patterns and common misspellings, etc.)

  • Identify the purpose of a range of punctuation marks and be able
to apply and recognise their use correctly.
