The Team

The counselling team includes permanent and temporary members. Most team members  work part-time and there are clerical staff and a number of volunteer or trainee counsellors. The number of people working in the UCS varies throughout the year but can rise to 20 or 30 at peak times. Of these about 1 in 5 are male.

The permanent and temporary counsellors have all been extensively trained and have considerable experience. Many of them work as counsellors outside the University as well. The volunteers and trainees are either qualified or working towards a qualification and without exception have all reached a sufficient level of competence to work with clients.

Many members of the team work longer hours during term-time and this enables the UCS to offer some early evening appointments.

Only the permanent counselling service staff are listed below because the temporary, volunteer and trainee staff change quite regularly.
